According to some estimates order rosuvastatin 20 mg with visa cholesterol ratio desirable, about half of adolescent boys experience at least some breast development during puberty discount rosuvastatin 10mg online cholesterol healthy range. Living in Florida where swimming and beach activities are popular year-round, however, I can tell you it surely seems more prevalent than this! Cases of man boobs are on the rise around the globe no doubt paralleling the rise in obesity rates. Glasgow, Scotland, which boasts the second-highest obesity rate of all countries studied by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, has seen an 80 percent rise in man boobs reduction surgery since 2007. While most cases of man boobs are related to problems with overweight, it seems that even thin and normal weight men are increasingly experiencing issues with breast enlargement. Clearly, man boobs of all shapes and sizes are at epidemic levels and it isn’t just the boys and men struggling with their weight that are affected. Something environmental is at play here as I don’t ever remember seeing even one case of man boobs when I was growing up in Florida – certainly never on a thin or normal weight guy! Male Hormonal Imbalance Can Lead to Man Boobs Could all the soy that is in the majority of processed foods today which has added plant estrogens (isoflavones) to the male diet at a rate never before seen in history be a factor in the development of man boobs? Not even in Asia was soy ever consumed in the large amounts experienced by those eating a modern diet. Traditional Asian societies primarily consumed soy in small, condimental amounts after careful and long periods of fermentation. Perhaps the increasing popularity of soy infant formula starting a few decades ago is partly to blame which exposes a male infant to disruptive levels of estrogen at a very vulnerable time for the developing hormonal system. An infant exclusively receiving soy formula consumes the estrogenic equivalent of at least 5 birth control pills every single day! What about all the steroids, hormones and antibiotic laced feed used in the conventional dairy and meat industry? Consumption of foods from factory farmed animals containing pharmaceutical residues could be another contributing factor to the estrogen/testosterone imbalance at the root of gynecomastia. No doubt there are multiple environmental reasons for the large and very worrisome increases in gynecomastia across the board. For the person who suffers from it, however, the reason for the condition is not nearly as important as resolving it – and quickly! Conventional Treatments for Man Boobs Not Ideal Conventional medicine maintains that many cases of gynecomastia resolve on their own within about two years. Even if this were true (anecdotally I would dispute this from the stories I hear), two years is a very long time at a very vulnerable stage in an adolescent’s emotional development. Enduring the ridicule or avoiding social situations that require a bathing suit for that period of time seems unrealistic particularly in a warm weather climate. Rather than wait and see for two long years only to resort later to drugs designed for breast cancer like tamoxifen and raloxifene or surgical reduction does not seem like a health promoting plan of action particularly for a young boy possibly already struggling with self-esteem issues. Johnson and Johnson Settles Six Risperdal Boy Breast Lawsuits, Hundreds of Cases Pending Prominent witnesses may have spurred resolution; plaintiff’s lawyers at Sheller, P. Boys prescribed the drug claimed in the lawsuits they developed breasts that, in a number of cases, required mastectomies or other reconstructive surgery. The promotion of non-approved uses in the most vulnerable children of powerful drugs is most concerning. The New York Times reported last month that J&J agreed to pay $181 million to resolve claims by 36 states and the District of Columbia for promoting the drug and the similar formulation Invega for unapproved uses. The cause of this decrease can be conditions that block the effects of or reduce testosterone or a condition that increases your estrogen level. Natural hormone changes the hormones testosterone and estrogen control the development and maintenance of sex characteristics in both men and women. Most people think of estrogen as an exclusively female hormone, but men also produce it — though normally in small quantities. However, male estrogen levels that are too high or are out of balance with testosterone levels can cause gynecomastia. Generally, the swollen breast tissue goes away within two to three weeks after birth. In most cases, the swollen breast tissue will go away without treatment within six months to two years. These include: ? Anti-androgens used to treat prostate enlargement, prostate cancer and some other conditions. Examples include flutamide, finasteride (Proscar, Propecia) and spironolactone (Aldactone). Street drugs and alcohol Substances that can cause gynecomastia include: ? Alcohol ? Amphetamines ? Marijuana ? Heroin ? Methadone Health conditions Several health conditions can cause gynecomastia by affecting the normal balance of hormones. Any of the conditions that interfere with normal testosterone production, such as Klinefelter syndrome or pituitary insufficiency, can be associated with gynecomastia. Hormone changes that occur with normal aging can cause gynecomastia, especially in men who are overweight. Some tumors, such as those involving the testes, adrenal glands or pituitary gland, can produce hormones that alter the male-female hormone balance. About half the people being treated with regular hemodialysis experience gynecomastia due to hormonal changes. Hormonal fluctuations related to liver problems as well as medications taken for cirrhosis are associated with gynecomastia. When your body is deprived of adequate nutrition, testosterone levels drop, but estrogen levels remain constant, causing a hormonal imbalance. Herbal products Plant oils, such as tea tree or lavender, used in shampoos, soaps or lotions have been associated with gynecomastia. Immediately stop consumption of all sources of soy in order to remove plant estrogens from the diet. Because soy is in the vast majority of processed foods, this means freshly prepared, whole foods at home must become the rule rather than the exception. Drink 4 oz of Sarsaparilla tea or juice per day, Eat these foods: One of the best ways to block estrogen is by eating cruciferous vegetables. This type of food has a high level of phytochemicals and works to block estrogen production. Cruciferous vegetables can be cooked in a number of ways, and some of them, including broccoli and cauliflower, can taste good raw. Cruciferous vegetables include: ? broccoli ? cauliflower ? cabbage ? Brussels sprouts ? bok choy ? kale ? collard greens ? turnips ? rutabagas Mushrooms Varieties of mushrooms such as shiitake, portabello, crimini, and baby button work to block estrogen in the body. Incorporating this food into your diet will help prevent new production of estrogen. Their skins contain a chemical called resveratrol and their seeds contain a chemical called proanthocyanidin. Red grapes are easy to clean and eat, and they’re great to eat refrigerated or at room temperature. Seeds Certain types of seeds—such as chia, flax, and sesame—contain something called polyphenols.

Before describing magnetic resonance imaging it is necessary to understand the fundamental princi- ples of nuclear magnetic resonance and the basic sig- (b) nals. The principles of nuclear magnetic resonance can be very complex but in order to understand their application to imaging many of the complexities can be stripped away and the basics much simplified. More detailed descriptions are given in the books listed at the end of this chapter. The most (b) A group of three protons showing various orientations common is the hydrogen nucleus 1H, which is a single of their axis in free space. The proton loses this excess energy by precessing (the precession frequency Magnet determined by the magnetic field strength) until it regains equilibrium in the longitudinal axis once again. There are many protons Precession z undergoing this transition in a tissue sample so the sum behavior is best described by using vectors. The full story involves the complexities of quantum mechanics described in more specialist literature. Courrier personally introduced the papers for publication in the Comptes Rendues (Proceedings) of the French Academy of Sciences. When he wrote a paper and sent it this time to the Academy of Medicine, it was refused without explanation. Pautrizel then wrote a long letter, since made public, to the governing offices of the French Academy of Medicine to find out why the paper had been refused and which people on the jury 19 refused it, so that he could consult with them in order to better inform them of the facts. So then he decided to step outside of normal scientific channels and offered his story to a journalist who wrote an extraordinary book called the Dossier Priore, A Second Affaire Pasteur? Because the book has not been translated from French, and may not be (because it was written for a French audience and should really be rewritten in English) it is not accessible to English readers. Of these, three had no formal academic training—Priore, Naessens and Rife—and yet they went on to develop the most extraordinary medical tools in energy medicine that I think exist. All this is moving and largely unknown medical history and all of it affords real 33 opportunities for further exciting research. Becker is most famous for his book, the Body Electric, which gives an autobiographical account of his life’s experiences with 34 bioelectromagnetics. Not only did he establish that the Chinese meridians of the body are skin pathways of decreased electrical resistance but he discovered a host of other bioelectric effects within the body as well, such as electrostimulating limb-regeneration in mammals. The Body Electric, Electromagnetism and the Foundation of Life, William Morrow & Co. Since bone is piezoelectric, these specially designed signals effectively create stresses that open the calcium channels, in the same way that weight-bearing exercise does. Pilla envisions a device being available in the future that could be installed under one’s mattress to send bone-strengthening signals all night to elderly patients in their own home (see Glen Gordon section). A physicist with Oakland University, he has introduced significant physics principles into the field of bioelectromagnetics. However, it is noted in the patent disclosure that “up to 100 days of treatment will provide beneficial results. Gordon, a medical doctor, speaks of the first critical 12 hours as a “stunning” situation in which a person’s body is responding to an injury. He also addresses the phenomenon of stress from a physiological perspective, citing that the mitochondria crank out 38 free radicals when in a stress situation. Phys Med Rehabil, 1994 Jul-Aug; 73(4), 275 22 observed in rapid healing of injured patients. He said the pulsed magnetic field penetrates the skin at least 4-5 cm but that there could be other phenomena at work because he is seeing effects clinically much deeper than that. Gordon cited a Stanford study that showed “onboard antioxidants were 100 times more effective. After retirement, he had several heart attacks, angiograms, and surgeries that still left him with severe heart pain whenever he exercised. In 2003, his colleagues told him that this doctor needed a transplant or he would be gone when the next heart attack occurred. He was able to walk further and further as time went on and, as a result, never had the transplant. He experienced such dramatic heart function improvement that within six months, he completed a 2,500-mile solo bicycle trip across the country to show the world that he was healed. Yet, cardiologists routinely dismiss his “anecdotal experience” and are unwilling to discuss it. Gordon states his frustration with the politics of the American Medical Association and the U. Drug Lobby who have stonewalled this technology from achieving acceptance by the 41 Dr. For example, he says that until Abraham Flexner’s publication of “Medical Education in America” in 1910, consumer support for electromagnetism treatment was excellent, and Maxwell’s prior insights in the 1860s had stimulated even greater interest here and abroad. This was accomplished despite Einstein’s acceptance of Maxwell’s work and its widespread use throughout Europe and the Soviet Union. The long-term effect from this historical shift in medical evolution is that today, are 2. Gordon believes that electromagnetic pulse technology may eventually nearly eliminate the need for the pharmacological industry. A solo study of genetically identical mice saw increased life expectancy of 15% (661 vs. Anti-inflammatory drugs and arthroscopic “clean-outs” stop nothing en route to joint replacement, while the former alone kill 30,000 43 annually from bleeding. He also has a holistic university that offers degrees 46 related to integrative health care. Shealy is also responsible for organizing the first accredited Energy Medicine program in the country, which is available through Greenwich University. At an electrotherapy seminar at Penn State University, he described some of the early work he did in wound healing. Instead, he found that if a -40 mV potential can be restored in a wound area, which normally exists on the skin, the healing rate is twice as fast. Since silver and silver colloid are known to have antibacterial properties, he said it was the perfect metal to put across a wound, connecting it to the negative skin voltage potentials on either side of the wound. The weaving of silver thread into nylon provided the best fabric to accomplish this task. Benefits are that Silverlon® cloth bandages (1) re-establishes a -40 mV potential to the wound by electrical conduction, (2) are a local antibiotic, and (3) exhibit a “tissue penetration effect” in glove and shirt designs. For severe wounds and burns, a blend of nylon fiber and silver coated nylon fiber demonstrated advantages that are safe, 45 Shealy, C. Light Years Ahead: the Illustrated Guide to Full Spectrum and Colored Light in Mindbody Healing. Flick showed graphic photos at Penn State of a woman whose forehead was severely lacerated after going through a windshield. He explained that scarring would be normal in this situation but the photos after Silverlon® was used on her were very impressive. A unique infusion of silver throughout a comfortable, flexible fabric delivers pure ionic silver to the wound site longer than other silver-impregnated products on the market. The MacKeen study reports on clinical experience using electrically generated silver ions from Silverlon® fabric as adjunctive treatment in the management of chronic osteomyelitis. In tests conducted by a multi-site home health agency, Silverlon® was found to heal wounds rapidly, and decrease nursing visits and costs. After a trial using Silverlon®, the wound healed completely in three nursing 48 visits. Flick also showed examples of bone infections that were healed with Silverlon fabric which do not respond to any other treatment, including oral antibiotics.
